This contract involved two separate projects being carried out at Bowen Hospital simultaneously.
The first part of the works involved construction of a 90m2 extension to the Wellington Orthopaedic and Sports Surgeons Clinic. This included: demolishing the existing exterior clinic wall; extending the ground slab; and constructing cladding on the new building line.
The increased area was used to expand the existing busy waiting area and provide additional consulting space.
The other aspect of the works involved, the reconfiguration of the hospitals existing second stage recovery area into a dedicated second stage recovery and post-anaesthesia care unit. The other major aspect of the project was converting an uncompleted shell in part of the hospital into a sterile store.
The works were undertaken adjacent to active operating theatres, therefore, we undertook much of the work after hours to ensure minimum disruption for the functioning of the hospital We also took further precautions, such as mitigating construction dust to prevent cross-contamination.
